WINTER GEAR
Never travel in the backcountry unprepared. None of your equipment is helpful unless it fits, it works, and you know how to use it!
What you don’t need to bring are: kitchen supplies, stove and fuel, condiments, spices, oil, or dish washing soap.
What to bring for the Hut:
Pillow (or use your pile jacket)
Sleeping bag
Optional: Bed sheet to cover existing polyester or polyurethane mattress covers
Shoes for wearing walking between your hut and the stone house (or you can put slippers inside your shells.)
A compactor bag for taking out your garbage and trash.
General Equipment to Bring:
Boots (AT, Tele, XC, Snowboard)
Skis, snowshoes, or split snowboard (designed for backcountry)
Poles (large baskets preferred)
Backpack sized for all your equipment
Climbing skins or wax kit (including grip and skin waxes)
Headlamp
Pocket knife or multi-tool
Sunglasses protective enough for bright alpine conditions
Goggles with lenses sufficient for changing conditions
Water bottles or hydration system
Sunscreen and lip balm
Avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel
Snacks, whatever you like to eat in the backcounty, before bed, or between meals
PERSONAL CLOTHING
Long underwear top and bottom (no cotton, synthetic or wool suggested)
Socks plus extra pair(s) Warm/Insulating Layer
Fleece Jacket/Vest/Sweater
Pants
Down/synthetic puff jacket
Waterproof Outer Layer
Gloves/mittens plus extra pair
Ski hat(s)
Sun hat
Neck gaiter/balaclava
Hut slippers (or you can use ours)
Personal items (toothbrush/paste, medications, prescription glasses, earplugs, watch w/ alarm)
Personal wash cloth/travel towel
Disinfectant wipes

Compass
GPS and extra batteries
Altimeter
Emergency shelter (bivouac sack, light-weight tarp)
First-aid kit
Fire starting kit (matches, lighter, starting fuel) OR lightweight emergency stove
