2021 Spring Thaw Update: Land Trust Lands & Trails

Our stewardship crew is hard at work getting trails ready for you to enjoy.

Our stewardship crew is hard at work getting trails ready for you to enjoy.

As the days get longer and the air gets warmer, many of us begin to think about putting away our skis or snowshoes and lacing up our hiking shoes – and wondering what trails are ready to explore.

Our stewardship team is checking out our properties to see how snow melt is progressing and what damage, if any, winter has left behind in downed trees or other impacts.

Waddle Ranch and Elizabethtown are ready to be enjoyed right now! Only one downed tree has been found crossing a trail (which has been cleared) at Waddle Ranch, along with a few soft spots on Elizabethtown Meadow Trail we ask you to tread lightly on.

“Keep singletrack single” is an important idea to keep in mind so we avoid widening trails and trampling local vegetation. If you’re leaving boot prints or tire tracks, you’re probably a little too early. We’re as anxious as anybody, but we hope you’ll do your part in keeping our trails in good condition.

And while vaccines are making significant headway and our collective knowledge of the COVID-19 pandemic is much further along than this time last year, we ask that you continue to do your part with social distancing as you venture out.

We’ll update our social media pages as other trails open up (typically south-facing, sun-exposed portions of Wendin Way Trail and Donner Lake Rim Trail come next), but some favorites are still weeks away.

Stay tuned, and we look forward to seeing you out on our trails!
