HIKE OF THE MONTH: PLACER LAND TRUST'S CANYON VIEW TRAIL

Take advantage of beautiful spring weather, stretch the legs and see some flowers.

Springtime in the Golden State is one of my favorite times. Foothill Greenery and wildflowers are on full display, while Truckee is still a winter wonderland:  it's multi-sport season for recreation! Whether it's a trip down the hill to escape frigid high altitude conditions or following the wildflower bloom up the hill, the diversity of habitats in the Sierra offers it all.  The Auburn area is beautiful and warm this time of year; electric green hillsides are decorated with bright orange poppies and purple lupine. Our friends at the Placer Land Trust protect numerous landscapes in the Auburn area. One of their properties sports the advantages of proximity to Interstate 80 and views of wildflowers, the North Fork American River Canyon, Foresthill Bridge and the snowcapped Sierra! Canyon View Preserve. This 50-acre preserve protects a portion of Sierra Canyon Creek and has a 1.25 mile loop trail which is just perfect to stretch out the legs on a longer drive.

The Placer Land Trust hopes to eventually connect the Canyon View Preserve trail to the Auburn State Recreation Area, providing an additional access point to the trails on the North Fork of the American River.

Hmmm. A backcountry ski tour or a hike in shorts and a T-shirt?  Gotta love the Sierra!

Pet Friendly Note: Dogs on leashes are welcome on the Canyon View Trail.
