Historic Webber Lake Hotel Repainted to Historical Standards

Truckee Donner Land Trust’s Board and Staff would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to volunteers Michael Peckham, Greg Barraclough, Ronald Barraclough, and Stacy Conner for restoring the historic Webber Lake Hotel’s paint to its original appearance. Thank you as well to Kelly Moore for donating the paint, and Mountain Hardware and Sports for donating other supplies for the restoration.

The Webber Lake Hotel was built in 1860, serving as a rest stop along the Henness Pass Road that brought emigrants to California. Once the railroad became the preferred route, the hotel became a popular tourist destination, with famous guests like Red Cross Founder Clara Barton, and painter Thomas Hill.

In 2018, the hotel was named to the National Register of Historic Places. Originally built without a foundation, Truckee Donner Land Trust worked to carefully lift the hotel and place a foundation to prevent further decay. Learn more about that project here.

The new paint was chosen under the guidance of the Sierra County Historical Society.
