NORTHSTAR CONSERVATION EASEMENT
Northstar California Resort donated a conservation easement on 56-acres to meet conditions specified by Placer County associated with Promised Land Express lift mountain improvements to the Land Trust. Before finalizing the conservation easement donation, Northstar treated the 56 acres for fuels reduction and wildlife enhancement, as recommended in the Northstar Habitat Management Plan, in concert with providing additional stewardship funds to the Land Trust.
This 56-acre conservation easement is located in the western portion of the Northstar California Resort land holdings, in an area with high habitat conservation value. This easement complements the 233 acre easement on the east side of SR 267 and the 37 acre easement near the Village at Northstar already held by the Land Trust on Northstar land. These easements provide access to public recreational lands and are important for water quality protection as they contain diverse riparian waterways.
As the days lengthen and we transition from skiing to hiking season, we’re delighted to open trail connectivity from Waddle Ranch Preserve to Northstar with our new Elizabethtown Trail, which has already proven popular with Northstar visitors.
The conservation checkerboard in the Martis Valley region continues to accumulate green conservation squares through the Land Trust mission to preserve and protect scenic, historic and recreational lands with high natural resource values in the greater Truckee Donner region.
We are thrilled to hold these conservation easements and retain these lands in perpetuity for natural resource values!
