Perry’s Peak- Honoring Perry Norris and his Legacy of Conservation and Public Access
It’s hard to overstate the impact Executive Director Emeritus Perry Norris has on conservation throughout our region. His vision and hard work over two decades has helped protect tens of thousands of acres, from Waddle Ranch to Lower Carpenter Valley, and many other projects in between.
Likewise, it’s hard to overstate how much Perry loves Frog Lake, and how much of his heart and soul went into the protection of this special place … and into the creation of the Frog Lake Backcountry Huts. He worked tirelessly to conserve the 3,600-acre landscape surrounding Carpenter and Euer valleys, and designed the huts to access some of the best high-country in our region. If you’ve stayed at the Huts in winter, he may have even been your Hut Meister.
The Truckee Donner Land Trust calls the 8,320-foot-tall peak on the north-northwest side of Frog Lake “Perry’s Peak” in recognition of his extraordinary service and passion. The peak is a popular ski option for Frog Lake Backcountry Hut visitors, and offers a fantastic view of Frog Lake and the surrounding mountains.
Next time you visit Frog Lake, whether you climb Perry’s Peak or look at it from Frog Lake’s shores, we hope you’ll join us in thanking Perry for all he’s done for the Land Trust and our region!
