Watch the surrounding peaks light up orange and purple at sunset before falling asleep, wake up to mist hanging over the water and the calls of sandhill crane, and you’ll be hooked. There’s something for everyone, from nature lovers to history buffs – following are our top five reasons to camp at Webber Lake.

For Nature
Webber Lake’s seclusion, going largely unnoticed for a century, means that the surrounding forests, meadows and wildlife have thrived. From migratory bird paths to Lacey Meadows, it’s a beautiful place to get back to nature.

For Fun
Webber Lake offers up lots of great recreational opportunities as well. Fishing and paddling on the lake are visitor favorites, and the nearby Mount Lola trail is great for hikers looking to bag the highest peak in Nevada County. Miles of dirt roads beg to be explored by bike, and Webber Falls just downstream can’t be missed.

For History
Webber Lake’s rich history dating back to early California pioneers isn’t just in books, it’s at the campground. The still-standing Webber Hotel, built in the 1860s, served the popular Henness Pass wagon route for those heading west during the Gold Rush.

For Access
Webber Lake Campground is the perfect basecamp for exploring the Lost Sierra. Situated between Truckee to the South and Sierraville to the north, the possibilities for day trips from camp are limitless. We love exploring the mountains above the Sierra Valley and stopping for lunch in Sierraville before heading back to camp.
