What Could Have Been Without Your Support

As the Truckee Donner Land Trust approaches its 30th anniversary, our Board and Staff look back at all the work we’ve accomplished thanks to your support - nearly 40,000 acres of lands protected, 45 miles of trails, numerous forest, habitat, meadow and watershed restoration projects, a campground and so much more.

It’s worth thinking about what didn’t happen too.

Since the Land Trust’s founding in 1990, Truckee’s population has doubled. Once considered a backwater of Tahoe, Truckee is now a world-renowned destination. So, what would our region look like without your generous support of our shared mission?

Imagine another resort subdivision complete with golf course and 1,350 mcmansions instead of the Waddle Ranch Preserve.

Or 950 new homes on Donner Summit instead of the trails and open space of Royal Gorge. Or 500 new luxury condos on the hill above downtown Truckee instead of the conservation easement we hold on Hippy Hill.

Or Perazzo Meadows and Webber Lake ringed with upscale homes, closed to the public.

Or even a tech company campus fencing off Independence Lake.

While the Land Trust is by no means anti-development, the threats to our region’s open space, biodiversity and its character have been downright scary.

Thanks for your support and unwavering passion for this place we both love. We look forward to another 30 years and beyond of conservation in the Truckee Donner area.
