Why Your Friends and Neighbors Are Supporting Canyon Springs
Protecting Canyon Springs as open space and opening it to the public for recreation is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our community, and in the last few weeks since Truckee Donner Land Trust, Mountain Area Preservation, SOS Glenshire and the Martis Fund announced our campaign, hundreds of you have voiced your support with generous donations. Thank you!
The community’s contribution has already added up to more than $700,000 so far (including more than $100,000 in private donations, a generous $250,000 gift from Daniel Haas and Family, all doubled by Tony Fadell’s and Danielle Lambert’s incredible matching pledge), which brings the campaign to $10.6 million – just $1 million shy of our December 15 goal!
We asked community members to share why they think this is an important piece of land to preserve:
“Glenshire is one of the few neighborhoods in Truckee without access to extensive public dirt trails for hiking, dog walking or mountain biking, so it has long been a dream that Canyon Springs be open to our community for preservation and recreational access. We are grateful for the efforts of the Truckee Donner Land Trust, Mountain Area Preservation, SOS Glenshire and the Martis Fund for giving us this incredible opportunity.” – Allison Pedley, Truckee Trails Foundation.
“I was beyond thrilled when I heard that the Canyon Springs land acquisition was going forward. It is such an important, central, and vibrant area for the Truckee community to get outside, be healthy and enjoy the open space. Preserving it for public use will provide a beautiful nearby outlet for people to explore daily. It also protects the natural setting and keeps it from being developed, which would deprive the community of much-needed open space and push the density/traffic in the community to unhealthy levels. Our family is looking forward to venturing through the space on a daily basis.” – Jack Macy, Glenshire Resident/Donner Party Mountain Runners.
“Acquisition of Canyon Springs for conservation is a critical piece in an ongoing 30-year effort to preserve and protect 12,000 acres stretching from Canyon Springs to Lake Tahoe. It is part of an especially critical deer migration corridor running from Verdi to Tahoe which faces being fractured unnecessarily by overdevelopment, sprawl, and poor planning. Canyon Springs is the linchpin and must be preserved as a conservation priority!” – Stefanie Olivieri, founding MAP board member and Truckee business owner.
Please join Allison, Jack, Stefanie and hundreds of other donors in permanently protecting and opening Canyon Springs to the public for all to enjoy by donating today.
