WINTER EXCURSION: DONNER SUMMIT CANYON

Soon it will be time to get out the cross-country skis, fat bikes, and snowshoes! Did you know that lands managed by the Truckee Donner Land Trust make great places for winter excursions?  The same areas you visit in the summer are transformed into winter wonderlands of all types - steep alpine terrain for a backcountry ski, snow covered roads and trails for a nice tour, and snow-filled meadows that are spectacular in the sun or moonlight. 

A favorite of the Land Trust is Donner Summit Canyon, which offers easy access from Truckee, near the West End of Donner Lake. Tour the route of the historic Dutch Flat-Donner Lake Wagon Road, enjoy the creek in its snow-covered canyon, and have a picnic with spectacular views of Donner Lake.
