PROP 68: A CRITICAL VOTE FOR THE TRUCKEE DONNER LAND TRUST
California Proposition 68 is vitally important to all of us who care for the Sierra Nevada.
Prop 68, the Clean Water and Safe Parks Act, is a $4 billion general obligation bond that would fund California’s most important water, park and natural resource needs. Of that $4 billion, Prop 68 earmarks $142 million for the Sierra Nevada – 1.5x more than Prop 84 in 2006 and 3x more than Prop 1 in 2014.
That funding will be a critical source for the Truckee Donner Land Trust’s future conservation projects, as well as for managing and enhancing the properties already in our care.
Beyond the work of the Land Trust, Prop 68 funding will fund worthy projects throughout California, providing parks for disadvantaged communities, investing in wildlife and ecological areas, water resources, and to safeguard against climate change including drought and flood protection, water supply and wildfire risk reduction.
The state legislature passed the California Clean Water & Parks Act (SB5) with bipartisan support, and it will appear on the June statewide ballot.
