STANDING WITH COMMUNITY: SAVE OLYMPIC MEADOW

The Campaign to Protect Olympic Meadow is more than an opportunity to preserve 30 acres of land - forest, meadow and stream. It's an opportunity to stand with a community.

Olympic Valley is America's playground, the site of the 1960 Winter Olympic Games, a world-famous ski destination and an all-season favorite for Truckee-Tahoe locals and visitors alike. But its also home to a community of dedicated residents who have been fighting for years to save the character of the valley they love.

Working with Squaw Valley Public Service District, we have an opportunity to stand with them, shoulder to shoulder, to save an iconic piece of the valley unlike any other. It's the first sweeping view visitors experience as they enter the valley past the Olympic Rings and eternal flames. It's the one piece of property the founding Poulsen Family chose in the valley in the 1940s. And it's the only place where - if we're successful - the public could access and enjoy the beautiful meadow and Squaw Creek meandering through.

The members of the Olympic Valley community will soon have a choice to vote for a special tax assessment to purchase the property. Every dollar you donate will bolster that commitment the community makes, helping the Truckee Donner Land Trust build trail, boardwalk and a picnic area to make the property truly accessible and enjoyable for resident and visitor alike. With your help, we'll be able to walk through the woods out to the treeline at the edge of the meadow where pine gives way to white-barked aspen, step onto a boardwalk and wander out among the grasses and flowers, out to the edge of Squaw Creek. We'll be able to sit on a bench or at a picnic table, listening to the creek burbling by, looking up the valley at the storied peaks above.
